What is Slated?

An exclusive film investment community which enables interaction between filmmakers, investors, and the film industry. Find out more about us.

Who should participate in the Slated community?

Slated is a community of peers with pre-existing relationships that consists of:

  • Eligible individual and institutional investors both new to, and experienced in, film investing
  • Experienced producers and directors
  • Industry professionals such as sales agents, distributors, talent agents, and notable talent.

Can anyone join Slated?

Everyone who applies will need to be approved by two other members of the Slated community before their profile will be published.

Prospective investors will need to be approved by two other Slated investors and satisfy certain eligibility requirements, such as financial sophistication and accreditation to achieve Investor status.

How long does it take to become an approved member?

If you have applied using two members of the site to refer you, we send an email to them at the time you apply.

If you have selected to be on the wait-list, membership approvals are at the discretion of Slated. We usually only approve members that are directly invited or can be verified by members. Therefore we do not recommend applying through the wait-list as it may take a while to have your profile reviewed. Membership is growing daily though so you can log in again to check if you know anyone new that could verify you.

How can I find members to refer me?

You will be asked to link other social networks on the final step of the application process. Linking social networks only finds friends who are already members of Slated.

Link social networks

If you are linked to any members, add them as referrers.

If you are not linked to anyone, add yourself to the wait-list. You can then browse the members to find those you know, and go back to your personal profile and add them as referrers. You will need to know the email address they used to sign up to Slated. But remember that members may have several email addresses. If you do not know the email address they used, ask them directly.

PLEASE NOTE that you only have 5 referrals...so choose carefully. We suggest selecting only those with whom you have a professional relationship. As we cannot always tell why a member has or has not vouched for you, you cannot substitute referral requests. If you use all 5, and no-one responds, you will automatically be placed on the wait-list.

What types of film projects are listed on/eligible for Slated?

Feature films (budgets $500K–$15M+) and documentaries with broad commercial appeal (budgets $250K–$2M). The films are “packaged” with some or all of the following:

  • bankable or known cast members and/or crew attached
  • partial financing secured
  • sales agent attached
  • other noteworthy elements secured

Most of the films require production capital, but some are complete or near completion, and are seeking finishing funds and/or distribution financing.

How much does it cost to use Slated?

Nothing at all. It’s free.

Can I encourage other people to join Slated?

You may encourage as many people as you want. However, they will need to be approved by two members of the Slated community before their profile will be approved.

Who do I contact if my questions have not been answered?

You can email us at with any more questions or suggestions. But continue reading...the answer may be in here.

How do introductions work?

At Slated, we value your privacy. We don't want you to be inundated with messages from people you don't know. So here's how this works:

  1. If someone tracks you, you can message them. We've done this because if someone is tracking you, we assume they are interested in what you're doing and would welcome a message.
  2. We also allow introductions via a mutual contact. So if the person you want to be introduced to is connected to someone you know, you can ask that someone to introduce you.
  3. All investors can contact all filmmakers (not the other way around).
  4. You cannot message anyone that has set a profile to not allow messages.

What does ‘Tracking’ do?

When someone tracks you, you can message them. If you track them back, they can message you. A person may track you because they are interested in what you are up to. They then get alerted to anything you do on the site such as tracking other people, posting a status update, or listing a film. It works in a similar way to being a ‘friend’ on Facebook or ‘following’ someone on Twitter or connecting with someone on LinkedIn. Although this network is for the film industry only.

If you do not know the person, and you are not interested in tracking them or what they're up to, then you do not need to track them back.

Remember though, if someone tracks you, you can message them. So for example, if an investor tracks you, or your film, you can send them a message to open up a dialogue.

What do I need to list a film on Slated?

To apply to list your film you will need:

  • Title, synopsis, budget, country of origin (i.e. where the project is being developed...not filmed)
  • A profile image to represent the project (no more than 2Mb file size, JPEG, GIF or PNG only please)
  • Names and email addresses of the producer and two other crew members (email addresses are only required for non-Slated members)

Films must meet the following submissions criteria:

  • Narrative feature budgets should be $500K-$15M+
  • Documentary budgets should be $250K-$2M (feature length docs only)
  • All films must have a director attached. Narratives must have cast attached.

Films are then approved based on the strength of the "package" including:

  • bankable or known cast and director
  • the producing team - especially for first-time directors
  • partial financing secured
  • sales agent attached
  • other noteworthy elements secured
  • AND/OR the film is affiliated with a Company partner

What else should I expect when listing a film on Slated?

  • The more of the above information you have and enter, the more likely it will be published to the Slated community.
  • Projects that do not meet the criteria can take several weeks to be approved.
  • Most of the films we publish require production capital, but some are complete or near completion, and are seeking finishing funds and/or distribution financing.
  • We currently do not list shorts, or other companies and services looking for finance.
  • Slated is an introductory service and should be used in addition to your current fundraising efforts.
  • Listing your film on Slated does not guarantee financing.

NOTE: Slated aims to be as objective a marketplace as viably possible. However, we do prioritize our community's desire for access to quality over helping a larger quantity of films find finance. We believe that will lead to a sustainable investment and professional community which should benefit everyone in the long term.
